At short notice, Vocean were requested to measure the width and depth of a suspected crack within a concrete lined pipe.
Having considered numerous solutions ranging from simple measurement tools placed in view of the crack, to laser based geometric methods, Vocean engineers decided on 3D visualisation. By taking multiple still images from a variety of viewpoints a 3D model is created. From this model it is possible to take precise measurements between any two points. This can be done at any time once the images have been processed and the virtual model created. Multiple measurements can thus be recorded at convenience after the event. Other data can be extracted from the virtual model such as volume , which is useful for evaluating the extent of damage and material lost or for verifiying the volume of a rock dump.
